Yes. eMail is still a favourite topic of mine. Years later, it’s still the one single medium, that allows communicating across organisational boundaries. It’s still the one medium that allows to reach out to random people, e.g. for marketing. Despite the difficulties GDPR introduced for marketeers in 2018, driving a lot of marketing to proprietary, US-American platforms. Inside corporate, it’s still the one single medium that allows to make sure your manager is informed with communication between otherwise colleagues. (About the good climate, obviously.)

Die Pandemie hat es geschafft, dass sich jeder von uns merkwürdige Dinge angewöhnt. Und so war das gestern meine erste Präsentation vor Menschen, in der weder MS Teams noch Slack noch Zoom eine Rolle spielen. So richtig, mit Projektor und Stehpult und Leuten die zuhören. Erst wenn man sich darauf vorbereitet merkt man, wie leicht es Teams einem macht, unvorbereitet in so eine Präsentation zu gehen. Weil man auch während man präsentiert alles ablesen kann.

BAM: After Salesforce bought Slack in a monster $27B mega-deal only in December of past year, today news have that Microsoft reportedly wants to buy Discord for more than $10B. The market for cooperation and chat solutions is in heavy motion. The Discord solution will compete with Microsoft’s home grown Teams to some extent.

Slack partners with Amazon

All of Amazon’s AWS employees will now use Slack

The market for collaboration tool has been sparked by Slack a few years ago. It has been subject to heavy fights since. Microsoft Teams not only entered the market but overtook the early mover quickly. The fight escalated perceivably when Slack accused Microsoft of ripping off its ads in late 2019.

AWS and Slack recently announced a partnership, indicating how hot the market apparently still is. With these two heavyweights in the ring, expect some movement in the space.
